Tanker Rollover Closed Ramp Tues Morning
Cheyenne (WYDOT) – A rolled over tractor trailer tanker truck loaded with hot tar kept the off ramp from Interstate 80 to southbound Interstate 25 closed this morning. The combination unit rolled over shortly before 8:00 a.m. this morning and was loaded with 5,500 gallons of hot tar, which is loaded at 300 degrees.
The driver of the truck tractor combination, 37 year-old Glenn A. Dvorak from Sidney, Nebraska, suffered minor injuries in the tanker rollover and refused to be transported. He was treated at the scene. Dvorak was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Dvorak had picked up his load of hot tar in Sidney, Nebraska with a final destination of Denver, Colorado. Dvorak was in the process of taking the curved westbound off ramp from Interstate 80 when his combination rolled ½ time coming to rest on it’s top.
Approximately 200 gallons of the hot tar spilled from the tanker trailer. Cleanup crews from a private contract company were enroute to the scene this morning to begin cleanup operations. Once the cleanup crew begans their operations they pumped the remaining hot tar out of the upside down tank trailer and into another tank trailer.
Fire department personnel built an earthen dam around the leaking hot tar to confine it and to kept it from spreading. No waterways are being threatened by the leakage.
Dvorak has been cited for speed to fast for conditions.
